20.07.2006 The post of ombudsman in Karelia stays vacant
From the recent times the post of ombudsman in
Karelia stays vacant despite the fact that control over observance
of human rights in any of open societies is one of priority work
directions for civil society and government. Similarly to changes in
the state administration that testify for the importance of state
work so the post of authorized on the human rights should not be
vacant. Ideally this will not only prove the actuality and concern
about observance of human rights in our republic but it will also
mean that there is a person capable of protection of human rights
and being the connecting link between society and government.
Protection of human rights activity needs democratic institutions
defending principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
and the Second chapter of constitution of the Russian Federation
which fixes in practice value of human rights. Karelian department
of the “Youth Human Rights Group” would like to see Tatjana
Alekseevna Simonova on this post. She is famous in public and abroad
for her active civil position of a human. Moreover she is the leader
of a charitable organization rendering aid to children-invalids
“Blagodat’”, the protector of human rights, known for her hard-edged
struggle against despotism and crimes in the armed forces and
finally she is a very courageous woman. We think that she is the
best candidate for the post of ombudsman in Karelia. The press
service of Karelian department of the “Youth Human Rights
Group”.
